This month the whole nursery has warmly welcomed the sunshine which has sparked lovely learning opportunities for all our little monkeys;
Blue Monkeys have enjoyed lots of lovely summertime walks where they have been able to watch the trains & buses. In the garden they have been delving into soil & have enjoyed an activity of planting seeds. Over the next few weeks the babies hope to discover about growth, as the sunflowers begin to grow & flower! The babies supported by their carers had lots of fun using their imaginations when using no resources they role-played horses on the farm & a new song was created by the team!
Staying safe in the sun has been a hot topic in Pink Monkeys, conversations have been held around sun-cream, hats, tents & sunglasses this inspired our toddlers’ imaginations as they visited the ‘Ice Cream Parlour’ using different coloured playdough & coloured rice to serve ice creams and sprinkles….yum!! With the sun shining lovely learning opportunities around light & dark were sparked and Pink Monkeys were able to explore shadows by using torches in their play.
Red Monkeys have also taken part in some wonderful activities which encourage the children’s development around knowledge & understanding of the world, living things & growth. Inclusive of this the children went on a walk & hunted for flowers which were brought back to the nursery to explore. The flowers were placed in a tray & the children were able to touch, feel & smell the petals, stems & leaves; this learning was then extended when the children were encouraged to make butterfly collages, colourful flower sun-catchers & sticking flowers. Further exploration of sensory bags filled with black paint & star stickers have supported conversations around night & day. A night time scene was also created using black paper, silver & yellow paint & start cutters.
