The month of October always brings exciting celebrations to Monkey Puzzle Orient Close, and this year has been no exception!
The month began with Spanish Day when the children had the opportunity to join in with a variety of Spanish themed activities, created their own flags (and explored the colours of the flag, red and yellow!) sang Spanish songs and made their own music with castanets. Diwali provided a splash of colour and light over the nursery as the children made their own Rangoli pictures and explored a range of sensory resources. The last week of October was spent celebrating Halloween as children of all ages delved into a variety of spooky messy play, made their own decorations using a wide selection of mark making resources and dressed up for a Halloween Party with music, games and a yummy party tea.
Exploring different foods is a great way for children to discover other cultures, so for all the nursery special days, we change the menu for the day to give the children this opportunity, and the food has been delicious!
Also this month, we were very lucky to be visited by a local Police Officer and a Fire Engine with 5 firefighters. The children had the opportunity to listen to stories about their job roles and look at and feel the equipment such as hand cuffs and the water hose. The children have a strong interest in occupations and ways of life and often talk about jobs their parents do so this was a lovely opportunity to extend the children’s learning and share thoughts and ideas with their friends.
