September News
This month has seen lots of activities about healthy eating and healthy living as part of this months challenge, including making smoothies, sorting healthy and unhealthy foods and taking part in exercise sessions.
September has brought in the introduction of our new activity session; Yoga! Children in each room have had the opportunity to take part in a Yoga session every Tuesday, using the time to relax, explore and understand their breathing and begin to understand their bodies.
Babies have enjoyed role playing in Blue Monkeys Café this month as they discovered tea bags, pretended to pour tea and share biscuits and used chalks to record food orders! They have also been busy exploring and naming animals as they created a 3D farmyard to display in the room.
Pink Monkeys have been exploring a range of activities relating to shapes including matching different shaped objects, printing and painting with shapes and identifying or naming shapes that they find. The children are encouraged not only to name the shapes but to discuss their features such as counting the sides or talking about what colour it is.
Red Monkeys have been exploring seasons, beginning to talk about what they notice as the season changes and what happens during each of the four seasons. They have also shown a keen interest in books and created their own library in the room which has been visited not only by all the Red Monkeys but also by Pink Monkeys. This has been extended by visiting the local library and exploring all the different types of books available, including exploring healthy eating and exercise books as we explored the topic of healthy living, and selecting some to check out. The children have then enjoyed taking the books back to the library and choosing new ones to bring to nursery.
This month we have also taken part in Jeans for Genes fundraising activities to support this worthwhile charity. The whole nursery arrived wearing an array of jeans and denim clothing and took part in interesting activities including decorating pairs of jeans and drawing or cutting out our own jean shapes.
