This month all age groups enjoyed celebrating St George’s Day with red & white activities; rose petals in water, making flags, word searches, creating masks & acting out the story. The children also enjoyed a delicious cottage pie & fruit sponge for lunch & tucked into an afternoon tea.
Blue Monkeys have continued to explore their interest of textures but have also been developing their literacy skills within this. The babies have been developing their fine-motor skills by exploring & handling a variety of books of all shapes, sizes & textures including homemade black & white books which contain pictures of our friends/siblings in Blue Monkeys, other textures such as balls, soft toys & patterned objects & also textured flash cards. The opportunity to explore texture through their senses was then provided within the home-corner where the children explored an Italian themed role play with fresh vegetables & cooked pasta to aid their imaginations.
The Bear Hunt story has been brought to life by our Pink Monkeys through using our wonderful outside space. The team provided the children with sensory filled trays; water, hay, flour, mixed sand & water all representing the stages of the story thus supporting their imaginations as they acted out the story. The children then crawled through the barrel connecting to the tunnel to find the hidden bear! Creative activities were also thoroughly enjoyed by all the children to develop a transport display inclusive of traffic lights, steering wheels & cars. This also prompted road safety conversations.
Our youngest Red Monkeys have been building upon their confidence through engaging in large group play, in particular a ‘What’s in the box?’ game. This found the children reaching into the wooden touchy-feely box & describing to their friends what they could feel & guess what it could be. The children also used puppets to tell their own stories in large groups. Meanwhile our eldest Red Monkeys have been participating in physical activities such as; balancing on the beams, exercise classes to music including push-ups, sit-ups, jogging, walking, skipping & jumping. In the creative area this has been extended with children collaging with various sport pictures.
It was also a very special month as the whole Monkey Puzzle Ridgmont Road community came together in an amazing fundraising week in support of Jossie’s Journey. We held a bake sale, Frozen day, sponsored staff haircuts & waxing, sponsored walk & much more. Please see our Facebook page for more details & if you would like to donate.
