Spring has truly sprung at Monkey Puzzle, Ridgmont rd throughout the month of April. Our children have celebrated Easter, St George’s Day and been offered the magical opportunity to watch live eggs hatch, grow and develop. Children of all ages were able to watch as small cracks began to appear in the eggs housed in an incubator in the nursery reception area. As chicks pecked their way out, the whole nursery community got very excited, as the new-borns arrived and quickly turned into fluffy yellow and brown chicks with names! Mathematics knowledge & language was developed as we counted the eggs both before and as they were hatching. Our younger children enjoyed holding and stroking the chicks whilst our older children described them, identified their genders and measured both themselves and the animals on a growth chart. Living eggs not only provide opportunities to experience life cycles, growth and development, but also encourages social interaction and promotes caring and nurturing skills. Wow! Easter was celebrated during the month of April as the children took part in lots of fun filled activities including creating their own eggs, nests, chicks and Easter bunnies as well as baking and making chocolate Easter nests to take home. On return from the bank holiday weekend, the children were excited to share their own Easter stories and experiences. A variety of different red and white activities, traditional stories and English flags were hung in all rooms and explored as we spent the day celebrating St George’s day. The children enjoyed tasting a variety of traditional English menu including fish, chips & peas and a traditional afternoon tea.
