August News The children have loved discussing and exploring the Summer season as we enjoyed some lovely weather this month, the paddling pools have been both inside and outside and the children have played with ice, crazy foam and lots of water play! Within the Nursery we have delved into discussions and activities relating to recycling! In Pink Monkeys they have made binoculars & telescopes out of cardboard tubes to search for Pirate Ships out to sea, as well engaging in a sorting activity with different items that needed to be recycled; paper, plastic & food waste. Red Monkeys created a beautiful display using recycled materials, making a mermaid from plaited newspaper, cereal boxes and pages from books. They have also dived into junk modelling by making a Rocket Ship from boxes and travelling into Space! The children enjoyed discussing which Planets they would like to visit. The babies in Blue Monkeys enjoyed feeding bananas made from recycled cardboard to a Monkey made from a recycled box and extended this into talking about what foods are eaten by different animals. We were also very lucky this month to receive a visit from a Fire Engine from the local Fire Station! The children were very excited to ask questions to the firefighters, watch a demonstration of how they access waters and have a go at turning the fire hose on & off! We also got to climb inside the fire engine to look at what was inside and watch an explanation of all the different protective clothing & equipment the firefighters wore and what each item is used for.
