February News 2021 February is always a very busy month of celebrations, we have enjoyed discovering and exploring different themes! This year seemed extra special being able to celebrate and learn about the world around us, once again looking at the world map/globe, eating different foods and listening to music from various cultures. We enjoyed taking part in Waitangi Day, which is a national holiday in New Zealand. The children looked at different aspects of New Zealand culture as well as exploring the flag, the national flower and discussing animals that live in New Zealand. For Valentine’s Day we discussed our family and the people we loved as well as enjoying heart shaped biscuits for snack, exploring pink and red activities and also looking at patterns using heart shapes. All the children also made Valentine’s cards to go home and Blue Monkeys made a ‘Love is in the Air’ display too, showing off their different mark making techniques. This month also saw the arrival of five fluffy ducklings! The ducks arrived as eggs and stayed snug in their incubator, with our children were able to watch them break through their eggs and had fun naming them; Puddles, Paddy, Hot Dog, Ducky & Arabella! The children enjoyed getting to watch the ducks as they grew and went swimming in our paddling pool, they also did some footprint painting with Pink Monkeys, and we discussed how the duck’s feet were different to ours! Red Monkeys have been exploring activities relating to being healthy such as matching foods that are good for us, differentiating between fruits and vegetables and exercising out in the garden! This prompted conversations around noticing what happens after exercise such as our heart beating faster and us getting warmer. We are looking forward to another busy month of celebrations in March and can’t wait to tell you all about it!
