In Blue Monkeys this month, lots of sounds could be heard as the children have been joining in singing with actions and making their own choices of what songs to sing; either using single words, choosing a puppet or doing some of the actions! They have also been exploring textures through books and flash cards, with carers encouraging the children to extend their vocabulary and use words to describe what they feel.
Pink Monkeys have been exploring lots this month starting with textures, the children creatively made a sensory board complete with different textures & then took turns to feel and discuss the different materials including Velcro, cotton wool and bubble wrap. Our inquisitive toddlers have also engaged in treasure hunt activities, following clues and maps to find the treasure, and searching with their telescopes! Pink Monkey’s have eagerly explored their new large scale calculators, and this has prompted many questions and conversations regarding the different mathematical signs such as plus, equals and multiplies.
Red Monkeys have been eagerly learning all about space, using our space mat to discuss the names of all the planets, which planets are the biggest or smallest as well as the sequence of the planets. This was extended by drawing the planets in order and then making our favourite planet using tissue paper, and or play-dough. The children also had a go at star gazing outside through their very own handmade telescopes. Also this month the children have discovered through messy play, building structures using papier-mâché. The Volcano was built by all children & they then watched with interest as the eruption experiment was carried out & it was lovely to hear all children correctly answering questions which were asked about Volcano’s.
This month we have welcomed the arrival of a new member of the Monkey Puzzle family, Bernard the rabbit! Bernard has been settling into his new home and the children have loved meeting him. The children helped to get his home ready for his arrival whilst discussing how we care for him.
