This month has seen some hot weather which has prompted both indoor and outdoor summer activities as we keep cool and have fun!
The children have explored different forms of ice play as they played with ice in water, investigated objects from in water and made delicious ice lollies which were enjoyed for afternoon snack. Children from all rooms have taken part in water play in the garden including running under the sprinkler and dipping their toes in our paddling pools.
We have had some beautiful new furniture delivered this month which has provided new learning and exploratory opportunities for the children. Blue Monkeys have enjoyed walking along the new soft play self selector, sitting on it to look at flashcards and selecting toys to explore from the drawers. Pink Monkeys have eagerly peered out of the window from their new unit, where they have been able to observe the trains as well as wave goodbye to parents as they head off to work each morning!
July has been very busy in Red Monkeys as they have observed the life cycle of a butterfly by caring for them as caterpillars, watching them grow and form a chrysalis, emerge as a butterfly and then releasing them outdoors! This has sparked lovely conversations and questions about caring for living things and how things change over time. To extend this, we created an Ant Farm where we were able to observe the ants digging tunnels as well as carrying leaves and other objects.
We were very lucky to have a visit from some local Police Officers in their car; the children were given the chance to explore inside the car, talking about what the different buttons do, as well as finding out about the equipment the Police Officers carry and use, even having a go at holding them too! The children have been very interested in occupations and talking about the people who help them including the Police, Firefighters, Vets & more. We’re looking forward to extending this with more visitors!
