This month we have been busy with a range of celebrations as well as enjoying lots of outdoor time in the surprisingly sunny weather. Blue Monkeys have been extremely interested in exploring ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story, developing their imaginative play through role play picnics, and then creating artwork through mark making for a bright and colourful display. Babies have also been engaged in interacting in the Black and White area situated within their room, looking at our new homemade black and white picture books, babbling & smiling with excitement whilst identifying themselves and their friends in the photo’s. Letters have continued to be explored by our eager Pink Monkeys and their recognition of letters has been extended through developing their writing skills as they have been encouraged to trace the letters in their names. The children have also been printing with letters in paint as well as decorating letters by painting, gluing and sticking. Pink Monkeys have also begun to extend their knowledge of colours by exploring how colours change when we mix them, and naming the colours made as a result. Red Monkeys have been adventuring on the high seas through engaging in Pirate themed activities! We dressed up with eye patches and hats to go sailing on our large inflatable Pirate ship. We created treasure maps through teabag painting, and then hunted for treasure that had been buried in playdough or frozen in ice! “The Pirates need to use the telescope to find the treasure!”. Pictures of pirates have also been created through sticking hats and eye patches made from coloured card, and then drawing on features with coloured pencils. All rooms donned their chef’s aprons as we prepared some delicious cakes and biscuits for our Red Nose Day bake sale, some children also donated treats to sell that they had made at home! We raised £475.56 in total, a big thank you to all our generous staff, children and their families. This month has also seen us celebrate Mother’s day by creating Cards and decorating mini Canvas presents, exploring Welsh food and culture on St David’s Day and immersing ourselves in Irish traditions for St Patrick’s Day!
