All things Welsh were celebrated and explored on St.David’s day as the children made their own versions of the flag of Wales and showed an interest in stories about dragons. St Patrick’s day brought a little bit of Ireland to St.Albans as the children danced to Irish music, tasted traditional Irish dishes and explored the colours of the Irish Flag. Both of these celebration days have provided opportunities for the children to discover countries nearby and find them on their world map. Discussions have been shared about places we come from and landmarks we have visited. As we get ready for Easter, the children in all age groups have made Easter cards to take home and decorated their own Easter egg pictures using a variety of materials. Baking has always been a favourite at Monkey Puzzle so, for Easter, the children have been mixing shredded wheat and chocolate to make nest cakes and sticking tiny chicks on top. World Book Day was a special day where stories and books were shared and celebrated at Monkey Puzzle. Laughter was heard throughout the nursery as all the staff and children came in dressed as their favourite book characters and brought stories to share with their friends. Our eldest children’s imaginations grew as they collaboratively created their own storylines and used role-play techniques to perform these to eachother.March has brought great opportunities for the children to show an interest in different cultures and discover more about the world around them.
