ALL THE FUN IN MAY
This month in Blue Monkeys we have been welcoming the summer with lots of sand & water activities. We have been using buckets & spades along with our fine-motor skills to build big sandcastles, which were great fun to knock down! Our continued interest in transport has seen us put our creative skills into practice & an exciting transport display has been created. Multicultural instruments have been explored which has inspired us to make our own shakers; we decorated tissue tubes with paint & filled them with rice.
Lots of Pink Monkeys have been on holiday this month so we have been discussing holiday activities such as the beach & eating lots of ice-cream! This has been extended through discussions about what we wear on holiday when it is hot & sunny outside & how to keep safe! The sun has inspired an amazing new display all about holidays, real sand and yellow paint were used to make the beach. Best of all we have really enjoyed splashing around in our brand new dinosaur paddling pool, a bubble machine was added which created lots of fun watching them floating in the sky.
In Red Monkeys we have been talking about people who help us & from this we have; made Police badges using cardboard & tinfoil which made them shiny, been exploring the vet box whilst caring for all the animals & making them feel better & a huge fire engine has been created using lots of chairs. Dress up fire hats were used as the children made their way to put out the fire. Our Fire-Fighters went on tour around the nursery to carry out a risk assessment seeing how many fire extinguishers, alarms, exits & detectors we could spot & what we use them for & we also went to see where we need to stand if the fire alarm goes off. We have been discovering about under the sea & all the different animals that live there. We made an octopus using big cardboard & paint, sticking on all the 8 legs, we also made little sea turtles using paper plates & coloured paper.
