May has brought with it some beautiful weather & wonderful opportunities for discussions & outdoor activities including outings to the local park.
Blue Monkeys have been focusing on their physical development this month, using their coordination skills as they pass toys from one hand to the other & bang them together. The children have also been supported in their fine motor skills through chunky, easy grip crayon drawing & making marks using different strokes.
Our Pink Monkeys have enjoyed learning all about transport, the children embarked on train & bus role play activities, talking about where they are going & what they will do there, as well as exploring lots of messy play & an experiment to see if paper boats would float or sink. Dancing & disco activities have also enthusiastically been enjoying which began at the start of the month with May Pole dancing. Disco time has also been a time of showing off amazing dance moves & singing along to favourite songs & rhymes.
Our oldest children in Red Monkeys have been discussing their emotions at circle time, starting each day by selecting whether they are feeling up or down or unsure & giving reasons why this might be. We have also enjoyed learning about time, by making clocks, discussing the times & playing ‘Tell the Time’ board games. Red Monkeys have also discussed how plants grow, naming different parts of a flower & making their own flower pictures using collage.
This month also saw the whole nursery celebrate the Royal Wedding between Prince Harry & Meghan Markle, where children & staff wore red, white & blue clothing representing the Union flag, or a wedding or party outfit. Everyone enjoyed the celebrations with interesting and varied planned activities including making our very own 3 tier wedding cake…with a very special Tea Party ending this once in a generation Royal event!
