As I think about November and what the children have been enjoying I can’t believe that as well as all the daily music, stories, walks, food, dancing, laughing, arty exploration over the month there has also been no less than four special days/events…Remembrance Day, Children In Need, Spanish Day and St Andrews Day!
All have been enjoyed and explored in many different ways and for many different reasons.
Remembrance Day the whole nursery managed a minutes silence and the children thought about people in their lives who they might love, miss and/or help others. The children worked together to create a beautiful red and green poppy field which was proudly displayed.
Children In Need inspired the whole nursery to turn spotty, we raised money for this extremely worthy charity by wearing spots, selling spotty cakes and biscuits made by the children who also played with spotty play-doh and paint, not to mention a spotty menu to eat for lunch!
Spanish Day was a first at Monkey Puzzle, Orient Close but with both Spanish staff and children with Spanish heritage who are part of the nursery community it seemed a very natural day to be involved in. The children ate Spanish Paella, listened to Spanish music, read Spanish stories and learnt how to hold and play Spanish castanets. Using the soft world globes the children where also able to find where Spain is in the world and looked at the vibrant colours of the Spanish flag. Learning about other cultures is imperative and the children went home talking about where Spain is and counting in Spanish! ‘Spanish Day’ will definitely be part of our annual calendar from now on!
The very last day of the month was St Andrews day… we all dressed up in blue and white and delved into blue and white shredded paper and activities.
