November has provided the children and staff at Monkey Puzzle, Ridgmont Rd with endless opportunities to explore their senses and World around them.
The month kicked off with two very colourful celebrations, Diwali and Guy Fawkes Night. All our children explored the various colours, shapes and sounds that can be heard and seen as fireworks exploded in the night sky. Creating their own pictures and 3-D rockets, using a wide range of resources such as powder paint, glittery glue and sparkly playdoh the children were able to express themselves and literally delve in!
The change in season from Autumn to Winter has also provided the children with further learning opportunities as they watched the last leaves fall from the trees
Remembrance Day allows a time of reflection for all. Discussions were shared about people who help us and the events that they remember from the past. The children explored the colours red and black using a range of media to create their own poppy’s and poppy pictures. The whole nursery observed a 2 minutes’ silence at 11am which helped to secure their understanding.
Keech Hospice Care fund Raising Week…. We were all proud and humbled to raise over £3000! This is the largest amount of money we have raised in one week and is a testament to our Monkey Puzzle community. The week was in memory of Jossie who attended Monkey Puzzle, Ridgmont Rd from June 2014 -Aug 2017.
The charity week included a marvellous bake sale which ensured delicious smells wafted out of the nursery as parents, carers, friends, staff and children worked together to create various delicious cakes, cookies and biscuits. We dressed in orange and Blue which were Jossie’s favourite colours, had a week long Bring & Buy sale and planned ‘J’ activities whilst listening to songs from the film Frozen.
We made knew friends from Keech Hospice Care who we will continue to support.
The final week of November got spotty for Children in Need as many spotty activities were carried out and we all of course dressed up….any one who knows Monkey Puzzle, St Albans knows we all adore a dress up day.
December has a lot to do to top that!
