October Nursery News October always brings exciting celebrations to Monkey Puzzle Ridgmont Road. This year has been no exception! The month began with ‘Spanish Day’ when our children had the opportunity to join in with a variety of Spanish themed activities, created their own flags, explored the colours of the flag and sang Spanish songs and made their own music their own music with castanets. Diwali provided huge splashes of colour and light over the nursery as the children made their own Rangoli pictures, explored a range of sensory resources and we were lucky enough to have traditional dresses to explore and try on. The last week of October was spent celebrating Halloween as all our children enjoyed a variety of spooky messy play, made their own decorations using a wide selection of mark making resources and dressed up for our Halloween party with music, games and a spooky tea party. Tasting different foods is a great way for children to discover other cultures, so for all the nursery special days, we change the menu for the day to give the children this opportunity, and the food has been delicious! Blue Monkeys have enjoyed exploring role play with food including rice noodles, frozen vegetables and cereals! They had fun looking at the different textures as well as imitating actions they have seen at home and at nursery, including washing their hands at the home corner sinks and using it to fill up their cups! This month in Pink Monkeys they have been learning all about the world around us, and this including role playing a trip to visit Buckingham Palace! We also created out own versions of the Palace as well as London Red Buses! They also practiced their fine motor skills by cutting up fruits and vegetables independently with support. In Red Monkeys they have been learning all about Autumn! We went on a walk to looks at the colours of the leaves and visited the lovely garden at Monkey Puzzle Orient Close. We collected leaves and used them to create Autumn Artwork. We have also been doing still life drawings of pumpkins and seasonal fruits & vegetables.
