Our nursery facilities at Rigdmont Road are divided over three floors, each floor catering for different ages of children. These floors are named Bluebells, Blossoms & Sunflowers.
Bluebells
Bluebells are on the first floor and this is where our youngest children enjoy their day. The room has a large carpeted area for little ones to crawl, roll, shuffle, toddle and explore. There is also a soft play area with mirrored mats, tunnels, a ball pond and textured cushions to provide a safe and secure play experience along with a range of toys encouraging the children’s further development in all areas.
A large specially designed lino floor area gives the children opportunities to get very messy with a number of sensory activities such as water, sand, shaving foam and oats to name a few. This is also where highchairs are put up for feeding times, a great opportunity for lots of social interaction and exploring new foods.
A beautiful sleep room awaits our tired children. Calming music, relaxing sensory lights and a comfortable wooden bunk-bed style cot all help to aid the children into a restful sleep.
Blossoms
Our Blossoms room is located on the middle floor, designed for children to start learning how to be independent. In addition to a changing area, Blossoms have access to children sized toilets, potty’s and sinks, allowing the children to become familiar with hygiene routines such as hand washing, teeth cleaning and toileting.
A carpet area is used for planned and child-initiated activities such as construction, role play and small world. Staff plan activities according the children’s individual interests and needs, allowing children to learn through play opportunities, their peers and their carers. Cushions, soft chairs and sofas provide a quiet area for children to relax and look at picture books with friends and carers. This area is used after lunch for children’s naps. Mats are laid out with laundered sheets and blankets and children are soothed to sleep by soft music and familiar staff.
The lino area is busy with children exploring a range of media with all of their senses. Hearing the crunch of cornflakes, seeing the marks they make with paint, smelling scented play-doh and touching soft textured materials.
This area has child-sized colourful tables and chairs where the children eat their meals together. In this room, Pink Monkeys begin to learn how to feed themselves using utensils with support and encouragement from staff. Children and staff sit together at this time learning the social skills surrounding a family meal time.
Sunflowers
Downstairs is where you will find our Sunflowers room, which is home to our oldest children. Here they learn to become increasingly independent in the run-up to starting ‘big’ school. Activities are more structured and furniture is more appropriate to help with the transition to a reception class. You may see the Sunflowers using their own library bringing books to life by ‘Going on a bear hunt’, celebrating Fireworks Night by ‘junk’ modelling a rocket or beginning to write their name using different mark making materials.
Sunflowers have defined areas in which they can explore their world using different toys and resources. These areas include role play, messy/wet area, construction, small world and a book corner. They also have free access to child sized toilets and sinks with fun characters on the partitions to make the whole area child friendly.
Circle and together times happen everyday where children sing, read stories and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings. Sunflowers have free flow access too two outside areas. A small sail covered area is perfect for small outside planned activities such as planting or a teddy bears picnic.
Garden
The colourful main garden is a safe and enclosed space for all our children to explore. The artificial grass allows children to play in all weathers without getting muddy and the soft safety surface keeps bumps and grazes to a minimum. A raised mound with a tunnel running through it gives plenty of opportunities for children to create their own games.
We have outside electricity and outside water supply allowing for any activities to happen outside as easily as inside. We feel strongly that children have the opportunity to be outside if they wish.
