September has been an interesting month & has seen the nursery participate in a new event as we come together to support & thank our community. Rainbow Day was a colourful recognition of the NHS & Key Workers who we wanted to show our appreciation for. The day saw the children discovering the colours of the rainbow including identifying & matching colours, mixing colours to see what they make, making their own rainbow representations & also learning how to sign the different colours in Makaton! The children also listened to & took part in discussions about people who help us & how we can be kind & support each other, inspiring some of our favourite role play activities including the fire station complete with an operator, hospital role play & even driving bin lorries!
Our babies in Blue Monkeys have this month enjoyed a range of physical activities including running & moving in different ways outdoors as well as completing a soft play obstacle course. The children are supported to take safe risks within the nursery environment to support their physical development, confidence in their own abilities & early awareness of risk taking & keeping safe.
In Pink Monkeys, the toddlers have delved into practicing their Makaton skills this month. As well as learning their colours, the children have been practicing how to sign the first letter of their names, getting excited when they discovered someone else’s name started with the same letter! Pink Monkeys practice signing their letter each morning at group time during their Good Morning song.
Our eldest children in Red Monkeys have been developing their senses this month, starting with their sense of smell. The children helped to make a deliciously scented raspberry & vanilla play doughs, discussing what they smelt like & whether they recognised the smells. They used torches & magnifying glasses to explore their sense of sight & search for shapes around the room. Red Monkeys also discovered different sounds, using instruments to make different noises & identify which was the loudest & which was the quietest as well as beginning to discuss opposites!
This month we also waved goodbye to our school leaver at the start of this month, we wish them all the best of luck for their big school adventure!
